RSS Feeds

RSS is one of the oldest and most quietly radical technologies on the web. Instead of surrendering your attention to an algorithm, you subscribe directly to the sites you care about and read on your own terms. Step away from dubious feed curation, engagement bait, and platforms deciding what you see. RSS is all you need to get just the things you asked for, when you want them.

If you're not already using an RSS reader, I'd encourage you to try one. On iOS, Unread is beautiful and distraction-free; An Otter RSS is excellent too. On Mac, NetNewsWire is free, open source, and rock solid. Windows users would do well with Feedly or NewsBlur, both of which also work in the browser. If you want something fully self-hosted and independent, FreshRSS is worth the small effort to set up.

Subscribe to what you love. Read it on your own schedule. Own your attention.
